Sylvia Blyden Questions General Legal Council’s Call for Leniency Over JFK’s Contempt Sentence
Dr Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has criticised the General Legal Council for asking the Supreme Court to reconsider the custodial punishment given to senior lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, popularly known as J-F-K.
In a press statement dated Sunday, October 11th, she argued that the appeal for leniency contradicts the Council’s duty to regulate professional conduct.
The Council had issued a statement on October 8th, condemning Mr Kamara’s exchanges with the Supreme Court bench during proceedings on the Constitution of Sierra Leone Amendment Act, 2025.
It described his conduct as discourteous and misrepresentative of the legal profession.
But it also asked the court to reconsider the punishment, citing the need for a good working relationship between the Bar and the Bench.
