October 6, 2026News

A delegation from Malawi is in Sierra Leone for a civic education exchange.

The visit is led by the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy, known as NaCCED, and aims to improve how citizens engage with government and public institutions.

The team, headed by NaCCED Chairman Joseph Munda Bindi, began with talks at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education in Freetown.

Minister Chernor Bah said civic education builds trust between citizens and public institutions.

He noted that informed citizens are more likely to take part in democratic processes and hold leaders accountable.

The delegation later visited the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation, where Director-General Josephine Kamara led talks on how radio, television and other platforms can carry civic information to more people.

Participants highlighted community radio, podcasts and public discussions as ways to reach local audiences.

Both sides agreed that independent media and open public debate are essential for effective civic education.
