Chief Minister David Sengeh Endorses Amina Mohammed for UN Secretary General

Chief Minister Dr David Moinina Sengeh has backed UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed for the post of UN Secretary-General.

He made the remarks in a social media post.

Dr Sengeh described her as one of his strongest pillars during his eight years of work at the United Nations.

He said he had seen her create, champion and support major global initiatives.

They include GAVI, Transforming Education, and AI and Development.

He praised her leadership, saying she works with grace and kindness.

He said that if she were interested, the world should unanimously nominate her.

Dr Sengeh and Madam Mohammed recently appeared together at a UN event on artificial intelligence and human development, during the 81st General Assembly in New York.

Madam Mohammed, a Nigerian, has served as Deputy Secretary-General since February 2017.

However, she has publicly said she is not seeking the Secretary-General position.

At a UN press conference on July 7th, she said she was not a candidate.

She also expressed hope that the next Secretary-General would be a woman from Latin America and the Caribbean.
