The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone has begun a regional stakeholders’ validation meeting in Kenema.

The meeting is part of consultations on the Commission’s 2025 to 2029 Strategic Plan.

It was held on Monday, and brings together stakeholders from the Eastern Region.

They include political parties, civil society groups, the media, traditional and religious leaders, and security institutions.

The aim is to gather input to refine the Commission’s direction over the next five years.

Chief Electoral Commissioner Edmond Sylvester Alpha said public confidence in elections is built gradually.

He said it depends on transparency, effective communication, accountability and continuous engagement.

He also stressed the need for ongoing public education on electoral laws and procedures.

The Kenema session is part of a nationwide consultation process.

It is being held under the theme, “Strengthening Electoral Transparency and Participation.”

The Commission says the consultations are meant to promote dialogue, consensus-building and inclusivity in shaping electoral reforms.
