U S Court Lifts Trump Visa Restrictions on Sierra Leone
A United States federal court has struck down a policy by the Trump administration that stopped immigrant visas for people from Sierra Leone and 74 other nations. A judge in Manhattan declared the ban unlawful, ruling that Secretary of State Marco Rubio exceeded his legal authority.
The visa ban took effect in January after US officials claimed listed countries presented high financial risks and security concerns. Human rights groups filed a lawsuit against the rule, arguing that it illegally separated families and violated immigration laws.
