State House Communications Director Misleads Public with Fake Strongest Currency List

September 3, 2025News

A viral list claiming to show the “Top 10 African countries with the strongest currencies in August 2025” ranking São Tomé & Príncipe first and Sierra Leone second is fake.
The post, shared by Sierra Leone’s State House Communications Director Myk Berewa, misrepresents some of Africa’s weakest currencies as the strongest.
The Sierra Leonean Leone trades at around 20,970 SLL = 1 USD, making it one of Africa’s weakest currencies, not the second strongest.
