Sierra Leone Explores e-sports Expansion Following High-Level British e-sports Roundtable in Glasgow
Sierra Leone is exploring opportunities to expand e-sports and create new pathways for young people in the growing digital sports industry.
The National Sports Authority, led by Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, participated in a British e-sports Breakfast Roundtable in Glasgow, Scotland, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Games.
The engagement focused on how Sierra Leone can develop and support e-sports, both nationally and across Commonwealth countries and territories.
The British e-sports Federation encouraged the National Sports Authority to develop national policies for e-sports, strengthen safeguarding and credibility standards, create opportunities for young people, and invest in the infrastructure and facilities needed to support the sector.
The discussions also explored how Sierra Leonean athletes and teams could eventually compete internationally and gain recognition alongside some of the world’s leading e-sports competitors.
The British e-sports Federation has invited the NSA to participate in future training programmes in the United Kingdom before the end of the year.
According to the NSA, the engagement reflects the government’s efforts under President Julius Maada Bio to diversify sports development and create new opportunities for young people in the digital economy.
The meeting forms part of a series of strategic engagements being held by the National Sports Authority in the United Kingdom alongside the Commonwealth Games.
