Samura Kamara Urges New ECOWAS Chairman to Restore Democracy in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s opposition leader, Dr. Samura Kamara, has congratulated Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on becoming the new chairman of ECOWAS. Speaking after the regional summit in Freetown, Kamara urged the new leader to help restore real democracy and electoral justice in Sierra Leone following the disputed 2023 elections.

Kamara called for the full implementation of agreed electoral reforms and repeated his demand for a rerun of the presidential vote, which his party claims was deeply flawed. Political tension has remained high in the country, with opposition lawmakers only recently ending a two-month boycott of parliament over key electoral appointments
