President Bio Advocates for Africa’s Permanent Seat at UN Security Council
President Julius Maada Bio emphasized that Africa, home to 54 member states, must have permanent representation on the UN Security Council, describing the current lack as a historical injustice that needs urgent correction.
Speaking at the 7th Summit of the Committee of Ten (C-10) on United Nations Security Council Reform in New York today, President Bio called for immediate reforms to ensure Africa’s rightful place in global decision-making.
He reiterated the African Common Position, as outlined in the Ezulwini Consensus and Sirte Declaration, calling for two permanent seats with full rights, including veto powers if retained, alongside two non-permanent seats.
