Opposition Deputy Leader Demands Parliamentary Review of Deportation Agreement With U S Government
Opposition Deputy Leader in Parliament, Aaron A. Koroma, has called for urgent parliamentary scrutiny of a reported deportation agreement between the Governments of Sierra Leone and the United States involving Sierra Leonean nationals.
Honourable Koroma said although the Minister of Foreign Affairs had earlier informed the public about parts of the agreement, the full details have not yet been presented to Parliament for proper review in line with parliamentary procedures and the national interest.
He noted that the first group of deportees is expected to arrive as early as Wednesday, 20th May, but Parliament has not received any official documents or briefing ahead of the implementation of the agreement.
