NGC Still Exists but Faces Serious Internal Challenges, Party Member Says

July 23, 2026News

The National Grand Coalition, or NGC, remains an active political party in Sierra Leone, but it is facing serious internal challenges that have affected its stability and public image. This was acknowledged by party member Mohamed K. Mansaray during an interview with Ecko Media, where he said the party continues to exist despite the difficulties it is currently experiencing. The discussion also revisited the departure of the party’s founder, Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, a development described as painful for many NGC supporters and one that has contributed to ongoing tensions within the party.

The interview also focused on the NGC’s leadership transition. According to Mansaray, Mohammed Kuma is currently serving as the Acting Chairman and Leader of the party. He explained that following the departure of former Chairman Dennis Bright, the then Deputy Chairman, Jasmed, assumed leadership in line with the party’s constitution, which provides for the Deputy Chairman to act when the Chairman is absent. After Jasmed was removed, Mohammed Kuma reportedly took over the acting leadership role, which he continues to hold.
