JFK Denies Supporting SLPP’s Berewa in 2007, Says Professional Ties Never Translated to Political Ba

September 6, 2026News

APC flagbearer aspirant Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has firmly denied ever supporting or campaigning for former SLPP flagbearer Solomon Berewa in the 2007 presidential election. Speaking on AYV’s State of the Nation programme, Kamara acknowledged that Berewa was his boss and mentor at the law office where he once worked, but insisted the professional relationship never became political support.

Asked directly whether it did, Kamara was unequivocal that it never translated into backing for Berewa’s campaign.

The denial carries weight given the 2007 election’s place in Sierra Leone’s history — Ernest Bai Koroma’s runoff win over Berewa marked the first peaceful transfer of power from the SLPP to the APC since the civil war.

Kamara’s comments come as he positions himself as a contender for the APC’s 2028 flagbearership, and he used the interview to defend his record as Anti-Corruption Commissioner and Attorney General, distinguishing professional relationships — including his ties to former President Koroma — from political allegiance.
