Finance Minister Demands Port Expansion to Drive Trade and Investment
Sierra Leone’s Finance Minister, Sheku Ahmed Fatamadi Bangura, has warned that overloaded ports are threatening trade and future economic growth. Speaking during budget discussions, he said current shipping facilities can no longer support the nation’s rising commercial activity.
To solve the crisis, the minister proposed building new ports, including a dedicated terminal for mineral exports and separate docks for general cargo. He warned that heavy congestion is already delaying shipments and hurting key national industries.
