Education Minister Sackey Responds to Claims Over Provision of School Materials

August 31, 2026News

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Education, Conrad Sackey, has rejected claims that schools lack basic supplies following recent teacher strikes. He announced that the government has sent over 520,000 literacy books and 13,500 teacher guides to schools across all 16 districts in the country.
The 850,000 dollar investment ensures that every Primary One pupil receives a reading book, while teachers get lesson plans and assessment tools. Minister Sackey said the distribution fulfills a direct promise to support early learning, regardless of where a child lives.
This supply run is part of a larger three-year plan to boost foundational education. Books for Primary Two are already being bought, while materials for Primary Three are currently in development to support young learners nationwide.
