Concerns Raised Over Reported Chief Economist Appointment at Finance Ministry

September 15, 2026News

Some citizens and stakeholders in Sierra Leone’s economic sector are calling on the Speaker, Deputy Speakers and Parliament to seek clarification over the reported appointment of Mr. Franklin Bendu as Chief Economist at the Ministry of Finance.

The concerns centre on whether the process followed established civil service procedures for recruitment, promotion and appointments.

The Chief Economist role is a senior position, responsible for economic analysis, fiscal policy, forecasting and technical advice on national economic matters — and stakeholders say appointments to such posts should be guided by clear procedure, professional competence and transparency.
