NCD Official Calls for Competence-Based Politics in Sierra Leone
The Director of Programmes at the National Commission for Democracy (NCD), Rev. Gibrilla Kargbo, has called for a shift in Sierra Leone’s political culture, urging citizens and political actors to prioritise competence and merit over party affiliation when choosing national leaders.
Rev. Kargbo made the remarks during a public discussion aired by AYV Media on Thursday, 23rd July 2026, where he reflected on the state of democracy and political participation in Sierra Leone. He argued that the country’s political landscape is too often shaped by party loyalties instead of an objective assessment of the individuals best suited to lead.
“The problem is the way we do politics, it’s my colour against your colour instead of choosing the most competent people to run the nation,” Rev. Kargbo said.
