SLAJ Celebrates Graduation of 80 Female Journalists from Digital Media Training
The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, SLAJ, has celebrated the graduation of 80 female journalists who successfully completed a Digital Media Literacy Training programme.
The training, held under the theme *“Amplifying Voices for Social Transformation,”* was designed to equip women journalists with the skills needed to navigate Sierra Leone’s rapidly changing digital media landscape.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, SLAJ President Alhaji Manika Kamara urged development partners and stakeholders to continue investing in the capacity building of journalists.
He said the rise of digital platforms and emerging technologies has transformed how news is produced, shared and consumed, making continuous learning essential for journalists.
According to the SLAJ President, the programme went beyond technical skills, empowering women journalists to tell impactful stories, reach wider audiences and amplify the voices of communities that are often underrepresented.
He also highlighted the growing need for journalists to develop skills in artificial intelligence, fact-checking, data journalism, multimedia storytelling and online safety.
Alhaji Kamara thanked partners, including the European Union, BBC Media Action, WIMSAL and Limkokwing University, for supporting the initiative.
He encouraged the graduates to use their new skills to advance their careers and contribute to a more informed, inclusive and democratic society
