One Win from History Betist Eyes Sierra Leone’s First Ever Commonwealth Games Medal

Sierra Leonean boxer Josefien Betist is just one win away from making sporting history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The featherweight fighter faces England’s Lucy Kings-Wheatley in the women’s 60-kilogram quarter-final at the SEC Centre. A victory would secure her a spot in the semi-finals and guarantee Sierra Leone its first-ever Commonwealth Games medal.
Sierra Leone first competed at the Games in 1958 but has never won a medal. Betist, who carried the nation’s flag at the opening ceremony, enters the fight in top form, having won three international gold medals over the past six months.
