Hawa Akpajie Kallon Supports Flood Victims of Soliama Town and Surrounding

Member of Parliament Hawa Akpajie Kallon has provided relief items to flood victims in Soliama Town and nearby communities in Sorogbema Chiefdom, Pujehun District.
The flooding has reportedly displaced more than 126 people and damaged homes, schools, places of worship and other properties.

Residents say floodwaters have also swept away household belongings, while several roads have become difficult or impossible to use.

Community members are appealing to the National Disaster Management Agency, the Office of National Security and humanitarian organisations for more assistance.

Pastor Victor Vandi said the community has experienced flooding twice within a short period and blamed some of the problem on construction along waterways and wetlands.

Honourable Kallon urged residents to avoid building on wetlands, swamps, valleys, hills and waterways, while calling for a collective and long-term solution to the recurring flooding.
