Family Seeks Answers Over Donations for Amputee Child Mustapha Kanu

August 24, 2026News

The family of a five-year-old boy who lost both hands in a brutal attack is demanding transparency over public funds raised for his care. Mustapha Kanu’s father accuses activist Lawrence Tauwah of withholding information and using personal accounts to manage public donations. The father also expressed alarm after learning about overseas treatment plans that would exclude the boy’s immediate family.
The financial dispute follows the conviction of Mustapha’s grandfather, who was sentenced to 75 years in prison for the assault. The child suffered severe injuries after his hands were tied and scalded with hot water as punishment for returning home late. Doctors were forced to amputate both hands to save the young boy’s life.
With the court case over, Mustapha’s father says his priority is securing proper medical treatment, artificial limbs, and long-term support for his son. He is urging the public and police to ensure that all money raised in Mustapha’s name goes directly toward his recovery.
