Richard Konteh Raises Concerns Over Rumors of Two Year Extension for SLPP Government

August 26, 2026News

A leading opposition politician in Sierra Leone, Dr. Richard Konteh, has warned the public not to ignore rumors that the government might try to extend its time in office by two years. Speaking on television, the All People’s Congress (APC) figure said that while the claims remain unconfirmed rumors, the political and security impact of such a move must be taken seriously.
Dr. Konteh stressed that any attempt to change the length of a president’s term must follow the country’s constitution. He pointed out that altering these rules requires a two-thirds majority vote in parliament. He also challenged his own party to ensure its own house is in order, arguing that the APC cannot credibly hold the government accountable if the party itself breaks its own internal rules.
