Citizens Advocacy Network Urges President Bio to Reject Constitutional Amendment Bill

August 28, 2026News

The Citizens Advocacy Network has formally petitioned President Bio to withhold assent to the Constitution Amendment Bill 2025, arguing Parliament failed to secure the required two-thirds majority when it passed the bill on August 10th following an APC walkout.

CAN wants certified records proving at least 100 affirmative votes were recorded, and has asked Bio to refer any dispute to the Supreme Court.

The Sierra Leone Labour Congress and Lawyers’ Society have raised similar concerns.

Police blocked a planned CAN protest citing safety, though President Bio has defended the bill — which includes a 30 percent women’s quota — as the product of two decades of consultation.
