MoPED, UNDP Push for Faster Implementation of 2026 Workplan

September 4, 2026News

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the UNDP have completed a Mid-Year Review of the 2026 Annual Workplan, looking at progress, gaps and priorities for 2027.

Deputy Development Secretary Usman Cherry Conteh urged institutions to move from planning to accelerated implementation, calling out procurement delays as a key bottleneck and stressing that effective use of resources is essential to attracting continued development support.

UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Kevin Petrini called for a more strategic, “co-creation” approach to development financing, with government and partners jointly identifying priorities and mobilising resources.

The review also flagged progress on ten bankable Blue Economy and investment projects spanning industry, tourism and transport, alongside calls for stronger gender mainstreaming and tighter financial scrutiny of government contracts and concessions.
