BAN Pushes Women’s SGBV Priorities Into 2027 National Budget

September 20, 2026News

The Budget Advocacy Network, BAN, has presented key budget priorities from women’s groups to the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs.

The presentation was made on Thursday, September 17, at the Ministry’s office on Big Waterloo Street in Freetown.
The priorities mainly focus on preventing sexual and gender-based violence and improving services for survivors.

BAN is calling for funding for a forensic laboratory, SGBV court monitoring, safe homes and One Stop Centres.

The organisation also wants resources for survivor support and social reintegration to be included in the 2027 national budget.

BAN says the proposals are based on concerns raised by women’s groups and should be translated into clear budget lines to strengthen the national response to SGBV.
