Welfare Ministry Advances Reforms to Strengthen Social Protection and Inclusion
The Ministry of Social Welfare is advancing several reforms to strengthen social protection and inclusion, according to updates shared at a recent Delivery Clinic with Chief Minister Dr. Moinina David Sengeh.
Minister Melrose Karminty said a 56-bed facility for persons with disabilities is nearing completion, alongside plans to license and regulate social workers nationwide.
Officials also outlined progress on a Religious Tolerance and Practice Policy, and reported that over a thousand young people have gone through rehabilitation since 2024 across five centres.
Chief Minister Sengeh called for welfare services to be centred on inclusion and measurable outcomes — urging accessible formats like Braille and sign language for government information, and a dedicated national policy for older persons.
