Spanish Surgical Team to Offer Free Operations at Police Hospital

A Spanish medical team has arrived in Sierra Leone to carry out more than 200 free surgical operations at the Police Hospital in Kingtom, Freetown.

It’s the 12th mission by the Surgeons in Action Foundation, welcomed by Inspector General William Fayia Sellu, who praised the group’s long-running partnership with the police.

Team lead Dr. Nuria Juan says the foundation returned specifically to serve people facing major barriers to specialised care.

Twenty-four inmates were identified for this campaign through inter-agency screening — twelve have already had surgery, with ten more scheduled, alongside other patients from across the country. Officials say the mission is also helping to train local hospital staff.
