MBSSE Launches National Junior Secondary Schools Basketball Tournament

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), in partnership with BLYSEF and FizSkillz Sports Coaching, has launched Sierra Leone’s first national basketball competition for junior secondary schools. The initiative was introduced during a three-day Training of Trainers workshop held from August 14-16 at St. Joseph Covenant Secondary School.
The program aims to promote youth development, healthier lifestyles, and teamwork while creating pathways for talented students to reach higher levels of the sport. Forty Physical Health Education (PHE) teachers from all five regions received training in coaching techniques, game-based learning, and player development. Upon completion, participants were awarded certificates to enable them to lead school-based basketball programs in their respective regions.
